Friday Bulletin & Diary Dates – 13th September 2019

13 September 2019

Dear Parents and Carers,

During the summer term, we were asked by Gateshead Council to provide a temporary Nursery for 20 pre-school children following the closure of the Hardman Centre.

It is our intention to provide a Nursery permanently to assist with provision in the area.  The proposal is out for consultation and we would welcome comments from parents of children currently on roll at Kells Lane, direct to Jan Batchelor at the email address below.  Depending on the outcome of the consultation period, we should have a decision on whether we have been successful by the end of this half term.

The proposal from the local authority is as follows:

‘The Governing Body of Kells Lane Primary School, Kells Lane, Low Fell NE9 5HX is proposing to lower the admission age of the school from four years to three years to allow early education to be delivered in a nursery class. Initially there will be 26 part-time equivalent places (15 hours). The proposal is as a result of the recent closure of the Pre-School within the Hardman Centre.

Minimal costs would be incurred by the school in the implementation of this proposal.

The Governing Body is seeking comments regarding this proposal.  Please send comments of support for the proposal or objections to the proposal to Jan Batchelor, Early Years and Childcare Service, Gateshead Council, Civic Centre, Regent Street, Gateshead, NE8 1HH.  Alternatively, telephone 0191 433 5128 or email janbatchelor@gateshead.gov.uk. .

All comments should be received by 5.00 pm on Friday 27th September 2019.

It is anticipated that the proposal would come into effect from January 2020, should the decision to implement the change be taken, after giving due consideration to all comments received.’

To register your interest in a potential Nursery place at Kells Lane, please email Tracey Skinner, School Business Manager at traceyskinner@klps.org.uk.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs A Whistler

Headteacher
