  • Early Years – 22 hours 30 minutes,
  • Key Stage 1 – 21 hours 40 minutes
  • Key Stage 2 – 23 hours 45 minutes.

Assembly

There is a daily act of collective worship in school, which is broadly Christian in nature. We have weekly whole school assemblies with Mrs Whistler, assemblies delivered by our teachers and School Council and Sports Ambassador led assemblies.
Parents who are considering exercising their right to withdraw their children from the daily assembly are asked to first speak to the Headteacher to find out what alternative provision can be arranged.

Celebration Assembly

This takes place on a Friday morning and is an opportunity for children to celebrate achievement inside and outside of school. Achievement, effort and good behaviour are encouraged and rewarded in the form of certificates and special rewards. The Kells Lane Team Captains announce how many team points have been awarded throughout the week, and we celebrate our ‘Stars of the Week’ as nominated by the teachers. Our resident puppies are awarded to the class who have behaved well during break and lunch times and Marvelous Marvin and his magic dustpan and brush goes to the tidiest classroom. Children are also able to bring in awards and certificates they have achieved outside of school.

ARRANGEMENTS FOR START AND END OF DAY

Getting to School

To get to and from school, walking is definitely the best option! There are lots of benefits: it’s healthier than travelling by car, it improves the safety of pedestrians and road-users, and it respects nearby residents and parking regulations. Alternatively, we have children’s bike/scooter racks. If you do need to travel by car, please park wisely.

Morning

All doors are open from 8.45 am until 9 am sharp.  Early Years children enter via the green gates at the front of the school . Children are in classes ready to start the day by 9 am.

Afternoon

At the end of the afternoon, parents are asked to wait in the playground until the class teacher escorts the children out. Any child not collected will be brought up to the office area on the first floor. Early Years children are sent out to their collector on an individual basis.

DAILY BREAKS

All break times are supervised, whether children are in the playgrounds, dining hall or in the school building as at times of inclement weather.  Morning and afternoon breaks are supervised by teaching staff on a rota basis, while lunchtime breaks are supervised by lunchtime supervisors.

LATENESS

Any child who enters school after the main gates are closed must come in through the front entrance, accompanied by the adult dropping them off. The adult is than asked to complete the reason for lateness and sign the late book. Research shows that punctuality has a direct impact on pupil achievement. Where lateness becomes an issue, school will organise a meeting and the Education Welfare Service could be involved.
