Happy New Year!
On Monday the staff from Kells Lane Primary School got together with the other primaries in our cluster for a joint staff training day. We decided to work together on our maths curriculum: sharing best practice, and promoting fresh ideas on how to deliver maths lessons that are stimulating and engaging for our pupils. Our guest speaker was the legendary Johnny Ball. Many of you will know Johnny for his innovative and engaging approach to teaching maths and science. His demonstrations on how to dissolve the mystery whilst promoting awe in mathematics and number was inspirational.
The children have had a busy return to school this week. Year 6 have performed a ‘play in a day’ to launch their new topic about the rainforests and Year 5 have been on a visit to the Hancock Museum in Newcastle. Exciting new beginnings was also the theme for assembly this week as I explored the tradition of New Year’s resolutions. I was impressed by how many children had identified their own personal goals: ranging from becoming a pole vault expert to doing at least one good deed each day.
There are many things to look forward to at Kells Lane throughout 2016. The school is buzzing with an atmosphere of anticipation and determination for the year ahead.
I look forward to working together with all our stakeholders during the exciting times to come.
