Now we have found out about ourselves we are going to start learning about our local area. We will take a trip back in time to find out what Low Fell was like in the past, before comparing it with where we live now. We are also going to learn where we are on a map of the UK. The special places and landmarks that we identify will also be explored further through our art and DT. Once again our learning will be from a mixture of taught lessons and through our Rainbow Curriculum.
Art and Design
In this part of our topic, we are going to practise our sketching and draw pictures of local landmarks.
Our artist for this term is Antony Gormley, who created the Angel of The North.
The first of our DT projects is to study and make models of famous landmarks.
We will then investigate weather machines before designing and building our own versions.
We are going to study the history of Low Fell and make comparisons between now and then.
We are going to learn how to create work using technology and save the things we make. We are also going to develop our keyboard skills and practise our typing.
We will start by looking at our local area and then locate Low Fell on a map of the UK. We then move to the rest of our country and identify the four countries and capital cities of the UK.
We are going to continue our work on Christianity but now we will investigate the Christmas story with a focus on the importance of the gifts Jesus was given and we will think about the gifts we would give to him if he had been born today.
In Music we are going to begin to explore tuned and un-tuned instruments and use them to create our own music.
Our focus is now the weather. We will identify changes in seasons and keep our own weather diaries.
Our focus now is the difference between right and wrong. We will investigate fairness and decide what is fair in different situations allowing us to make our own decisions in the future.
We will continue to learn about the different ways our bodies can move as we practise our gymnastics skills.
In addition to the taught aspects of our curriculum we also provide children with many other opportunities to develop and extend their learning. Please click on the following link to find out more.
