We are now going on a mission to outer space as we sort facts from fiction – about life out of this world. Once again our learning will be from a mixture of taught lessons and through our Rainbow Curriculum.
Art and Design
We will be practising our drawing and painting skills as we create images inspired by space. We will also start to develop our skills using chalk pastels to create rocket pictures.
Our artist for this half term is Nigel Humphries.
Our DT work this term features a rocket making workshop where we like to invite our grown-ups into school to design and build rockets alongside their children.
In food technology we are going to investigate fruit and veg and find out why it is important to eat your 5 a day!
There are some very famous people who have had the opportunity to journey into space including Neil Armstrong, Helen Sharman and Tim Peake, we are going to find out all about them and their achievements.
As Easter approaches, we are going to investigate the question – Why was Jesus welcomed like a king or celebrity by the crowds on Palm Sunday?
As we explore our solar system we will learn about things that are close and those that are far away. We will then use our new geographical vocabulary as we measure different things in our maths lessons.
Throughout the Spring term, we will be listening to live and recorded music . We will discuss our opinions and compare our feelings to different types of music (likes and dislikes).
This half term we are going to learn why it is important to keep ourselves clean. We will also learn about our teeth and what we should do to keep them healthy.
Using our previous learning about materials, we are going to sort specific things based on their properties. We will then sort our materials based on those that would be useful for astronauts as they journey into space.
This term we are going to learn more about algorithms. We will investigate how things around us respond to simple instructions and we will start to give our own instructions to control a device.
During our indoor PE this term, we will learn more about dance. We will learn how to control our movements to create our own simple dance routines.
Outdoors, we will explore different ways to move a ball with increasing control.
In addition to the taught aspects of our curriculum we also provide children with many other opportunities to develop and extend their learning. Please click on the following link to find out more.
